The Panorama Festival brought the British artist Helen Cole to recreate with Brazilian artists, the installation Breathe (Respire). The work focuses on the breath of the artists, who will be recorded during a free and exhaustive dance, captured in audio, to finally become an installation.
– Breathe is a work of endurance made from the breath of many people dancing from exuberance to exhaustion. A collective echo of resistance, as our bodies enter the battle of life before we run out of time, Helen says.
The immersion of the artist, who currently lives in Bristol, began in Teresina in Piauí, where she will develop with 12 people, the first stage of the creative process of Breathe. In partnership with the Junta Festival Internacional de Dança de Teresina. This year was invited by Panorama to be part of the curatorship. Then she returns to Rio, where she will do the same with 12 more performers.
It has been shown at the Venice International Festival of Performance, the Gibney Dance Studios, NYC and at IBT17 in small dark rooms or cavernous basements. An installation of traces it is a space of echoes and shadows that conjure the bodies that were once there.
Breathe is an achievement of the Pontes Program, a partnership between Oi Futuro (Institute of Innovation and Creativity of Oi) and the British Council, with the objective of offering new alternatives for the promotion of Brazilian festivals and promoting the artistic production of the United Kingdom in Brazil .
