Antigone Sr. / Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at the Judson Church (L)
In Antigone Sr., Trajal Harrell asks himself what would have happened if someone from the voguing scene had gone to Judson Church in 1963 to perform with the pioneers of the postmodern dance movement. This and other unexpected ruptures proposed on stage take the artist back to the classical theatre of ancient Greece to pose an aesthetic question: how do you transform Antigone into a vogue performance? One of the seven-part series Twenty Looks or Paris is burning at the Judson Church, Antigone Sr. is a big opening party for Panorama 2014.
Trajal Harrell is a dancer and choreographer from Georgia (EUA), but his story is intimately connected with New York. Harrell was the first choreographer to present a dance performance at MoMA PS1, in 2012, and was a resident artist at The White Oak Residency and Dance Center, at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Movement Research, Bennington College, CDC Toulouse, ICA Boston, PACT Zollverein and Workspace Brussels.
