THE FESTIVAL
With its first edition held in 1992, Panorama Festival is conducted by Panorama Cultural Association since 2007 and aims to occupy the city of Rio de Janeiro with dance, arts and projects with various formats, showing the relations that the body builds with time, space and audience through movement. Throughout its 22 years, it has presented national and international companies and artists, having an important role in building the memory of dance in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the importance of the relationship between that and its audience.
Pioneer in associating cutting edge contemporary art at popular prices, Panorama is already part of the cultural calendar of the city and a meeting point for more than 20.000 people per edition. Dance, technology, new dramaturgies of the body – everything places together to make a unique festival in Brazil.
During the two weeks of the Festival, in addition to the theaters’ programme, occupation’s projects are developed in non-theatrical spaces, where questions about the body and the city are developed. Concentrating its focus on the performing arts, but continuing its opening since 2010 for other languages,
Panorama supports and encourages choreographic productions of Brazilian and Latin American artists, presenting already established names and also young beginners, serving as a platform for artistic development and international projection of artists from Rio de Janeiro.
Through co-productions, supports the development of original pieces and is one of the biggest national showcases for the performing arts of the city and Brazil. Because of its enormous international visibility, the Festival is visited by curators and directors from theaters all around the world.
Panorama Festival is part of important international and national networks of performing arts, such as Red SudAmericana Danza, Next Step, network funded by the European Union which brings together the most prestigious festivals in Europe, and the IETM, which gathers more than 500 festivals, cultural centers and theaters.
